The 'On The Edge' Concert Series is a non-profit community program of Red Deer Lake United Church in southwest Calgary. Our mission is to host quality live musical acts at an affordable price for music lovers in Calgary and the surrounding Foothills communities. We strive to bring to our stage a variety of entertainment and musical genres that will appeal to a diverse audience. We are especially proud to showcase Alberta and Canadian talent, but may at times bring in acts from the USA.
The 'On The Edge' Concert Series uses the church sanctuary, which doubles as our concert hall, with seating for up to 300 people on a first come, first-seated basis. We have an exceptional venue with padded seating, excellent acoustics and a first class sound system. We are wheelchair accessible and a non-smoking environment.
Before our evening concerts, we usually offer a light supper including coffee, tea and pop, plus Chapman's ice cream bars. These refreshments (excluding the light supper features) are also available at intermission.
Concert time: 7:30pm or 3pm (January concert only)
Doors open: One hour prior to concert time.

Season Tickets: $80 (Adult only)
Children 12 years of age and under are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Cannot attend a Performance? Tickets are transferable. If you find you are unable to attend a concert, please give your ticket to a friend. The RDLUC Concert Series is unable to offer a refund.

The Travelling Mabels

The Travelling Mabels, an all-female musical trio singing country and folk, are from the Alberta foothills area. They draw on Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, The Eagles, Bob Dylan and Cheryl Crow. Their comedic and heart-felt take on life give them a great rapport with the audience. Their combined harmonious and dynamic energy make their performances brilliant and captivating. They were voted ACMA “Group of the Year” in 2011.
Gianetta Baril & The Foothills Brass Quintet

Gianetta Baril is a very accomplished harpist from Calgary who has toured throughout Europe and performed for the Queen. She performs regularly in solo and chamber music recitals in western Canada and her recording of Harp Concerti with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra won a Juno award for Best Recording of a Canadian Work.
Playing with the Foothills Brass Quintet will be an eclectic combination of high quality, full-impact entertainment. The Foothills Brassis comprised of five versatile musicians from Calgary and together with Gianetta, will provide an exceptional program of classics, jazz, ragtime, Bourbon Street, swing, and maybe some country and western to boot. Gianetta has produced her first solo CD “Luminescence”, while the Foothills Brass has produced 6 CDs to date.

ReMix is an extraordinary group of 14 singers base in Calgary, who are upbeat and energetic on stage. They perform Jazz, R&B, Pop and Fusion … songs like Billy Joel’s passionate ballad New York State of Mind, or Frank Sinatra’s Come Fly with Me. They have created unique versions of Canadian and American anthems that connect audiences to their roots. Every singer is versatile, all are soloists, who blend and balance in this ReMix ensemble. Their director is Brian Farrell, and these singers are selected from their larger group called Revv52. Recent performances were at Canada’s National Music Centre and at the American Consulate’s July 4th Celebration.

The Slocan Ramblers are Canada’s young bluegrass band to watch. Rooted in tradition with fearless creativity, they possess a bold, dynamic sound, and have built a reputation for energetic live shows. Impeccable musicianship, blending lightning fast and devilishly intricate instrumentals with smooth vocals, they put on a vibrant show of acoustic music. The 4 players on banjo, mandolin, guitar and bass hail from the hipster streets of Toronto, and have toured all over Canada, the USA, and the UK, to rave reviews. This is one of Canada’s best bluegrass bands and they stay true to the roots of the music.
