Faith and Spirituality

Faith isn't going to church on Sundays, it's a way of being, and of understanding ourselves and the world. As we say here, we're all works-in-progress, and we strive to continually become more human by exploring who Jesus is, what God is doing in the world through him, the life is all about, why any of this matters, and all those who-what-where-when-and-why questions. While Sunday worship is an important way to do all that, we also try to set time aside to do that together in other ways. As always, anyone and everyone is welcome at all our programs and events.

We are currently in the process of revamping all our programs, but here is a small taste of our regular programs available right now:

Lenten Book Study

Looking to make the most out of Lent? This year’s Lenten book study will be one of the books which has had a big impact on many people, including Rev Nick: Father Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life. For those of us looking to find the stepping stones to a fuller and more authentic spiritual life, this is the book for you. Pick up a copy from the library or local independent bookstore and read along. A Companion Journal is also available.

Wednesdays at 10am

Each weekwe gather to drink coffee and explore our faith. Pastor Nick will bring a scripture passage, theme or question, usually relating to what he’s talking about on Sunday, and guide a conversation as we share our questions, comments, stories, ideas and thoughts. It’s part community, part Bible Study, part coffee break! Anyone and everyone is always welcome. Just bring yourself!

First Friday or Saturday of Each Month

Home Church is a new way to experience community and church. Once a month you get together with the same folks at someone’s home to hang out, eat, laugh, drink, and grow in faith and life together. It’s open to everyone, including kids and teens. The only catch? It takes a commitment and investment. But we believe the payoffs are huge: a sense of acceptance and belonging and a connection to God and others. For more information: contact the church office at 403-256-3181 or office@rdlunitedchurch.org.

Last Monday of Each Month

Good things happen on Mondays at RDLUC. Whether it’s Drink & Discuss, where we explore one big question; Pints and Parables, where we explore ancient and new parables; Ask Anythings, where we just float out some questions to experts, or something else, it’s a chance to just relax with some good people over good drinks and explore faith, life, and spirituality. Location: The Celtic Tap 380 Midpark Way SE at 7pm

For Upcoming dates, visit our Messenger or Upcoming Events.

Walking the Labyrinth is for anyone looking for a spiritual tool that allows us to turn our attention inward which can facilitate healing, deepen self-knowledge and empower creativity. It clears the mind giving us access to our wisdom and inner sources of guidance. These provide us with invaluable insight into vital questions about our work, health, relationships and spirituality.
The Labyrinth walk is a simple physical activity, a walking meditation, a form of body prayer. This integration of mind, body and spirit presents a whole integrated world where you can have a heart to heart talk with your body or your Spirit.

Sundays at 10:15am to 11:45am

Kids are an important part of our community and we want to give them a time and place to explore who God is and that they are loved no matter what. For 3 Sundays per month, kids are invited to Kidz Zone as soon as they arrive at church starting at 10:15 AM. For the other Sunday, they are invited to join the adults in worship for an All-Ages Service.

If your kids want to stay within worship, no worries (even when they cry and fuss!). There is a nursery in the back of the sanctuary where the kids nap, be nursed, or crawl around. There is also a Play Zone located just outside the Sanctuary with colouring books and toys.

VARIETY OF EVENTS SCHEDULED. VISIT THE YOUTH PAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

We believe youth ministry is more than pizza parties and sleepovers, but about giving teens a safe and inclusive place to hang out, create friendships, have fun, talk about faith and life, and begin to discover what it means to truly be human. On Sundays the youth either stay in worship or head down to the youth room with our youth leader. They also get together usually once a month in the evenings to go out and do something fun. Keep an eye and ear open to what’s happening each week.
